Meet these SUPERFOODS

We're lucky. We live in a place where it's abundant with what we need ; food, air, water... Lets rediscover some of natures most highly nutritious food that has little exposure to the world, yet they are packed with vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants, protein and maybe just about everything we need to stay strong and healthy. Let's start with one of my favorites ;

DATES

Dates are fruits of the desert. They are moist and sweet.  They may vary from different sizes and colors yet they all have significant values for our health. They are highly nutritious, containing
readily absorbed glucose thus providing instant energy in state of exhaustion.
For mummies during and after labor, dates make a perfect energy provider.
Other than that it strengthens the heart as well as the liver, relaxes the bowels due to its high fiber content and increase semen production. Take it for breakfast to give you a kick start for the day. It also strengthens the memory and boosts mental health. You can eat it straight from the box or add it to yogurts and cereal. Its also available in baked products or even chocolate-covered, YUMMY!

RAISINS

Maybe this is familiar to you. We all are aware that raisins comes from grapes, yes but they contain more nutrients than the latter, its just like how dried apricots are better than the fruit itself. Okay why must we eat raisins? Like dates, it too contains glucose and fruit sugar for a boost of energy, great for recuperation after a surgery or an illness. Its blood enriching, good for anemia sufferers. You can even try it out for chronic constipation ; soak raisins in a glassful of water, leave for 24 hours and drink the water with the contents in the morning.
DO GIVE THIS A TRY. It contains antioxidants, retarding formation of cancer and slows down the process of aging. Contains inulin, a fibre-like carbohydrate that keeps the colon healthy and lowering bad cholesterol, cutting the risk for cardiovascular disease.

OF OLIVE AND OILS

Olive oil is the best and safest of all edible fats. Extra virgin olive oil stands champion for the best quality of olive oils. Its high in vitamin E which is great for the skin and hair, used as hair oil or a substitute for lotion to obtain smooth skin.Possessing therapeutic values such as reducing LDL, the bad cholesterol and at the same time it increases HDL, the good cholesterol. Its the only vegetable oil that's capable of doing this. It also maintains a healthy heart activity and lowers blood pressure. Take a few spoons per day for a healthier you. Its better taken raw as heat will demolish its nutritional values. (Taken from; Jean Carper's The food pharmacy)

HONEY

Honey isn't something new to the world. Ancient Egyptians used it as aspirin. It was used as wound dressing for wounded soldiers in World war I. It contains antibacterial properties, making it a great antiseptic. Did you know it's the most complete food as it contains all minerals vitamins
needed by us. When you look for honey in the market, you'll be stunned by the
varieties of honey available. Maybe its better to go for organic as the ones that
are cheaper may have been mixed with other substances or water, decreasing
its value. Manuka honey from New Zealand is said to be the best honey around.
But as long its pure, I think any honey will do. The darker it is the better. Mix with
warm milk to induce sleep.

FIGS

Add figs to your diet. Eat them fresh or dried. Its rich in fiber, relieves constipation and curbs digestion problems. Cleanses the liver and lungs. Thins phelgm accumulated in the lungs and stomach for an easier elimination. ( Taken from ; Imam Abu Jauziyah's medicine of the prophet)

BLACK SEED

It is said to be the cure for every illness. Also known as habbatus sawda. Available in seed and oil form.
Acts as a diuretic, dissolves stones that appear in the kidneys and prostate.
Blended, mixed with honey and down it with warm water for general health
being. Take it daily to eliminate flatulence( accumulated gas) and eases
stomach discomfort. Its recommended dosage for health maintenance is a few of teaspoons per day. For skin problems and joint pain, apply on affected area. The black seed oil can also be used as a massage oil.

SAFFRON

Golden yellow and costly. Saffron gives delicacies a vibrant color. Its not just a beautifying agent, it contains wonders, rich in vitamins including vitamin A, folic acid, riboflavin, niacin and vitamin C. Enable to relieve intestinal problems and said to be an antidote for the bubonic plague. High in antioxidant, it retards aging and progression of cancer. It also curbs skin tumors and improve arthritis. It brings about a positive effect on people with neurodegenerative disorders and memory impairment.
This particular spice is also a good source of minerals like copper, potassium, calcium, manganese, iron, selenium and zinc. Potassium is an important component of cell and body fluids that help in controlling the heart rate and blood pressure. On the other hand, manganese and copper are used as co-factors for antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase by the body. Iron also plays a role in increasing the count of red blood cells in the body. ZAMZAM WATER

Zamzam water is known to many. It is scientifically proven to contain beneficial minerals :

CALCUIM & MAGNESUIM :
The difference between Zamzam water and other water (city water) was in the quantity of calcium and magnesium salts. The content of these was slightly higher in Zamzam water. This may be why this water refreshes tired hajis.

FLOURIDE IN :
But more significantly, the water contains fluorides that have an effective germicidal action.

Moreover, the remarks of the European laboratories showed that the water was fit for drinking.
It is doubtless that its a miraculous blessing and proved to enhance wellness in the body. It's just not so available throughout the region  for its well is located in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

Wow, I see we have lots of options here. Except saffron which is a little pricey, most of the line up of food items here are actually very affordable and it could be in our pantry all along. The health benefits are great and with the right amount, good health is achievable.
