Pectin-the soluble dietary fiber we need

Pectin, sounds familiar? no? Well, pectin is a polysaccharides, or more precise heteropolysaccharide that exists in plant cell walls and fruit peels, acting as a soluble fiber when consumed. It is sometimes used in jams and jellies as gelling or thickener, to produce the gel-like substances.

What benefits is offered by pectin? :-
  • Lowers blood cholesterol level, particularly LDL cholesterol, the notorious fat that causes arteriosclerosis and at the same time increasing the amount of the good guy, HDL cholesterol.
  • Improves insulin resistance, maintains blood sugar level.
  • Relieves diarrhea and treats constipation. An intestinal regulator and prevents colon cancer.
  • Promoting feeling of fullness, helps in weight loss programs.
  • Maintaining a good digestive health.
  • Regulates blood pressure.
  • Treats ulcers(duodenal, stomach...)
  • Detoxify the body, removing heavy metals and unwanted substances, such as drug residue.
