Snoring - good or bad?

What do you think causes snoring? A.K.A. sleep apnea. As I grew up, I thought snoring was a result from a dead log sleep from weariness, it could be possible, but my readings proved otherwise. Did you know that snoring is the cause of breathing problems when sleeping? Shocking truth? I bet there are a lot of people out there who snores (how do we know if we snore? Ask witnesses) and yet have no idea that snoring is a sign of danger. It's not just annoying to the ears, it's annoying to the health as well.

The sound of snoring is made by a blockage in the airway when our throat muscles relaxes during bedtime or due to an abnormal throat tissue, causing our breathing to a halt for a second or more. This causes disruption to our sleeping rhythm and hikes up on our blood pressure.

Causes for a snore;-
  • Aging. As we age our throat muscles tone down, causing narrowness, hence snoring.
  • Gender. Men are more potent prospects fr snoring compared to women.
  • Nasal and sinus problems.
  • Posture of sleeping.
  • Overweight
From snoring you could eventually develop ;-
  • stroke
  • Nervous system disorder
  • sleep deprivation
  • Frequent waking in the night (with or without notice)
  • weight gain
  • Blood oxygen level reduced
  • heart-related disorder
  • Metabolic syndrome
  • Lung problems
  • Mental deterioration, causing depression, anxiety and loss of concentration.
  • Persuades body to produce adrenalin, that when is release too much may eventually leads to diabetes.
Treat snoring;-
  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Sleep on your right side
  • No smoking and alcohol
  • Seek professional advice
  • Sleep on flat surface (pillow-less)
