Fruity info : Persimmon's Health benefits

Image
This is not tomato...if that's what you're thinking. But if you know this isn't tomato, good for you. When I first met this particular fruit, namely persimmon, I have no interest in it, due to it's appearance that resembles a tomato, but orange-colored. I imagined, this has got to taste like tomato, this is a vegetable( nothing wrong with that though). Then one day, my hubby decided to buy some persimmon, because he read about the values it had on health. So, he did bought it, and together we discover how delicious the fruit was. Not at all sour as tomato, in fact it's sweetness was just right, delighting our taste buds and it was not even soft, it was crunchy and crispy. Now, we're loving it. A lesson here: no judging the book by it's cover. This fruit is originally from china, but like any other fruits, thanks to commercials and importing-exporting interrelations, we all can have a taste of it. Eat it with or without the skin. So, go to the nearest st...

Turmeric (Kunyit) - A powerful antioxidant & anti-inflammatory agent

Image
Familiar with turmeric? Scientifically known as Curcuma Longa, a relative of ginger . In the Malay language it is called kunyit . A root that is mainly used in dishes and medicinal purposes. You can find it in powder form, but personally the real thing is more satisfying. Turmeric has been used for ages to treat flatulence , menstrual irregularities and now in the western medication as a powerful antioxidant & anti-inflammatory agent.  Here, in Malaysia , women in confinement are advised to take blended turmeric mixed with honey to hasten recovery. The mixture may taste a bit unpleasant but it does really help to reduce inflamed tissues, and you need not much of it, less than half a glass of the mixture daily is good enough. Curcumin , the special component of turmeric that is responsible for its anti-inflammatory capabilities. It is also said that the turmeric's antioxidant properties is equivalent to that of Vitamins C & E, beneficial in combating raging Free Radicals ...

Food Rules: an eater's manual

Image
I'm out of ideas on what should I write, so today I'm sharing a few vital points I've extracted from a book I recently read, a few months back(considered recent? hmm..) Okay, it's a book by Michael Pollan, titled Food Rules: an eater's manual . And the truth is, I don't even know who this guy is, never heard of him what-so-ever but I found out there are a few other books published written by him, so I'm the one out-dated, it's not him unpopular or anything. This book is quite interesting, and different from any other books I've read. It's on, well, as the title suggest, food, more precise is choosing the kind right of food and how to distinguish between what really can be classified under the label 'food' and what should be under the label 'plastic'. Though it isn't a lengthy read, I won't be sharing every single word as he wrote it, this would be a synopsis of it sort, this will be my edition of food rules, just as long ...

Health Benefits of Avocado

Image
The first time I had an avocado in my hands, I wasn't enthusiastic. "What should I do with this thing?" I thought, it's all greenish outside and cutting it into halves to see, greenish flesh, appealing? not really, but those were the days when I never cared about what I ate, as long as it's a pleasure to my taste buds, it's a pleasure to me. And that avocado, didn't qualify for my consumption. So, now I know better, and I tried out the avocado(finally..), it isn't that bad, it's a bit oily and tastes buttery, it gets better when made into a salad. If you haven't try it already, I suggest you do. Now, the best part, the health benefits!:- Lowers cholesterol , thanks to it's omega 3 fatty acid content. Improves heart health , again because of the omega 3 fatty acid, glutathione and Vitamin E. Prevents oral, breast & prostate cancer . It contains oleic acid which is related in preventing cancerous cells from sprouting. It has a high...

Image
If this is your first visit here, you can read about YK Bee Pollen in either one of these articles:- Free radicals and supplements...> Immune system booster...> Before we move into the topic of this YK Bee Pollen, I'd like to invite you to dig a little bit into the history of 'me'.  As a kid, who knows nothing much but to pamper much of my sweet tooth's desires was a mistake, and since I really enjoyed the indulgence, the habit was brought up till I reached adolescence. Oh yeah, daily chocolate treats were no big deal for me and the toll was; toothaches! Not once..not twice..but countless of visits to the dentist finally left a scar of lesson in my head. Then I started to cut down on those sweet stuff. But other junk foods, such as crisps and fast foods were still on the list. My attention towards my health aroused when I first studied about MSG, additives, all sorts of chemicals and how they affect the body. However attentiveness wasn't enough, and I d...

Healthy Snacks for healthier Kids

Image
I bet parents out there are worried when handing over snacks for their little ones. Too much salt, too much sugar and to much of all the bad stuff. As a parent myself, I am uncomfortable giving my child what comes from the store, many of the food items are not healthy, contains too much of weird ingredients that may be indigestible and sprouts obesity. So, I made a research (self-reading only) for healthy snacks that could be substitutes for the over-junk contained foods, that claims to contain vitamins, minerals and whatever they claim to have. No offense, but my curiosity tells me to make my own kid-friendly snacks for my kid.Try your best to start your kids early on healthy snacks and avoid junk foods, once in a while treat is okay. Go for chocolates, the dark ones the better. Take a look at what I found. 1.Cheese, milk and yogurt. These three are great snacking products, as they contain protein and calcium that is essential for children's growth and stronger bones. Cut ch...

Oral Hygiene:Natural Breath Fresheners

Image
Good morning to all. Have you brushed your teeth this morning? Well, I am not going to write about brushing your teeth, as we all know brushing is essential to keep the teeth clean and eliminate the food residues stuck in between our teeth. Bad mouth odor is the cause of endless breeds of bacteria, improper oral cleansing and trapped food particles inside the mouth, however sometimes it is the result of a disease, for example sinusitis, blood, lungs and gastrointestinal problems. But brushing has it's limits, and there are deep loop holes where the brush cannot reach, this is why mouthwash are available, as these mouthwash are in liquid form, they can seep into hidden areas where we can or cannot see. And when they do make their way into these hidden places, they bring out the bacteria and whatever that's been sitting in our mouth and deterioration our oral hygiene. I don't fancy those liquid mouthwash in the stores, they taste quirky and they come with all sorts of harmf...

Tib An Nabawi (part3.3) Foods that Heals (continued)

Image
Welcome again. This is part 3 of the Tib An Nabawi review, please click here to check out part 1, thank you..> Fish( sama ') It is commonly known that fish is one of the best choice for consumption with less harmful substances compared to live-stock that we got on the land. But it is advisable to avoid big fishes as they may be tainted up to a certain degree due to the oil-spills in the ocean these days. It is said that the best choice of fishes would be the ones in moderate size, softest meat, lives in fresh water that flows, those which eat plants and the ones with scales, the finer the better as the scales filters out harmful substances that tries to go into the body of the fish. The meat from a seafish is said to be tougher and harder to digest, but may be beneficial for fertility purposes. If you are looking for salted fish, choose the most recently salted. And eating the fish part that is closest to the tail would be a better option than eating the upper part near th...
